Obama wins 2009 Nobel “Peace” Prize
Is This Someone’s Idea of a Dirty Joke?
Not quite. The Norwegian committee members in charge have a habit of awarding the “peace” prize to the guy who advocates using more dynamites!
Are you *^$%#@ serious?
The Nobel prize was created by the inventor of dynamite Alfred Nobel, a Swedish industrialist, who went on to make a dynamite out of his invention.
The Nobel Committee said they awarded him the prize for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples.”
How exactly did he do that?
He sent 21,000 more troops to Afghanistan to kill more civilians.
Dose it mean that he now has the Nobel license to use even more dynamites?
That’s the irony isn’t it. But at least they are consistent in the way they choose their prize-winners. Among their previous jackpot winners were:
- Martti Ahtisaari
- Shimon Peres
- Yitzhak Rabin
- The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso
- The United Nations Peace-keeping Forces
- Elie Wiesel
- Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
- Menachem Begin
- Henry A. Kissinger
- The International Committee of the Red Cross (twice)
“Very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said. [Ask anyone in Detroit, they’ll yah!]
“[Obama has] created a new climate in international politics, ” the statement from the Nobel Committee said. “Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play.”
Does this mean that Olympics Committee are at least more honorable people than the Norwegian Nobel Committee?
At least one person approved. Obama’s uncle Said Obama reportedly told Reuters by telephone from the president’s ancestral village of Kogelo in western Kenya: “It is humbling for us as a family and we share in Barack’s honor… we congratulate him.”
The ceremony for the peace award will take place on 10 December in Oslo, Norway’s capital. Meanwhile you can email your thoughts (express yourself freely) to the committee at postmaster@nobel.no
