Running out of indigenous people to kill at “home,”  Canadian troopers venture abroad

4 Canadians playing soldiers were killed, and 8 others seriously injured in two separate incidents outside Kandahar City on Friday, media reported quoting military officials.

Brig.-Gen. Jonathan Vance, the local apologist for the Canadian military in Afghanistan, also announced that one Afghan interpreter had been killed and another injured at  a news conference in Kandahar.

“Please do not think of these incidents as a failure on the part of any person or the mission itself,” Vance said.

“These wonderful Canadian men were, at the moment of their deaths, engaged directly in the continuing work to keep the insurgency sufficiently at bay to ensure safety for the population and to preserve our ability to meet the objectives of the Afghans, the international community, and the government of Canada,” he said.

“And those objectives are intended to meet the needs of a desperate Afghan population. Success in war is costly.”

Canada’s Prime Apologist, Stephen Harper, offering his condolences to the families of the soldiers whose life he could have saved had he withdrawn the Canadian forces out of Afghanistan, said:

“Canadians and the Government of Canada stand proudly in support of our Canadian Forces members as they strive to bring safety and stability back to Afghanistan. Master Corporal Vernelli, Trooper Bouthillier, Corporal Crooks and Trooper Hayes’ sacrifice will not be forgotten.”

“I join with all Canadians in wishing a prompt and full recovery to the other eight soldiers injured in these incidents,” he said.

The latest toll brings the number of Canadian military fatalities in George Bush’s “War on Terror!” in Afghanistan to 116 since  2002.  One diplomat and two aid workers have also been killed, media reported.

“Dutch Major General Mart de Kruif, who commands NATO’s 22,300-strong International Security Assistance Force in southern Afghanistan, expects ‘a significant spike’ in violence as fresh U.S. and NATO forces enter the region ahead of Afghan elections due in August.” Reuters reported.

“I think that what we are doing now is actually planting the seeds and that we’ll view a significant increase in the security situation across southern Afghanistan next year,” Kruif told Pentagon reporters.
